About AICRP on Cashew

Headquarters of All India Coordinated Research Project on Cashew (AICRP on Cashew) is located at main campus of Directorate of Cashew Research, Puttur. AICRP on Cashew has 10 centres and one sub centre located 3 voluntary centres in important cashew growing states of India.

Formerly, the project was known as All India Coordinated Spices and Cashewnut Improvement Project (AICS & CIP) which was started during the IV Five Year Plan in 1971 with its headquarters located at CPCRI, Kasaragod (Kerala). During the VII Plan AICS & CIP was bifurcated in to two separate project, one on cashew and another on spices. The headquarters of independent AICRP on Cashew was shifted to the newly established NRCC, Puttur (presently Directorate of Cashew Research) in 1986.

The mandate of AICRP on Cashew is to increase the production and productivity of cashew through:
  • Evolving high yielding varieties with good kernel quality and tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses.
  • Standardizing agro-techniques for cashew crop under different agro-climatic conditions.
  • Evolving cost effective and efficient pest and disease management practices.
